Off to catch Mewtwo, BRB

Nidoqueen? Primape? What was I thinking?

I finished Leaf Green – well, beat the Elite 4 at any rate. I went off to try to catch Mewtwo, but it told me I had to do a great deed before I could get in. I thought you only had to beat the Elite 4 (that’s how it was in the original games – it was foolish for me to think it’d be the same to be honest) but upon researching it on the internet I saw that there was a whole other sub-plot on those little islands and you needed the National Pokédex…

Now, I was only really catching things I knew I’d use, (and the Legendary ones for the fun/challenge of it) so at the end of the game I only had 55 caught. Oak only gives you the National Pokédex if you have caught 100 or more! I didn’t realise there was a bit more to the adventure after you’d become Pokémon Champion, like that one of the Legendary Beasts from Gold/Silver appears and roams the lands, loads more Pokémon from Gold and Silver become available to catch and that you can go back and re-battle the Elite 4 and they’ll have different and higher level Pokémon.

I really can’t be bothered to go back and catch things and evolve them, so I’ve started on Emerald instead. I’ve never played this version before, so most of the Pokémon will be a mystery to me but I’m going to try to catch everything I see and evolve everything I can. I’ll learn the hard way – only dipping into guides when I’ve got 6 or 7 badges so not to spoil the plot. Wait, there’s a plot in Pokémon? You know what I mean.

Secret bit where I moan about people.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to do this – not because the house has calmed down much, but because I don’t really want to continuously moan about the same things over and over again. So, on Tuesday David and Katie brought Jasmine over here. They came in and I introduced Ethan and Jane’s Mum, and I set about giving them the grand tour. We were in the dining room and Claire strode into the kitchen and got something, then stormed out again, not looking up once. I was looking at her, waiting for eye contact so I could introduce everybody, but she never even acknowledged there were other people in the house. Or maybe that’s her way of acknowledging people, by not acknowledging them. People are strange.

We continued the tour, went upstairs and were just passed Claire and Matt’s room and I was saying “this is the boy’s room” when Claire ran up the stairs, darted between everyone and shut her door and made a big song and dance of shutting the boys door and the safety gate – again, not acknowledging anyone was there. It’s not like I told David and Katie to go into their room and look around, open their underwear drawers, peruse their DVD collection and judge the contents of their wardrobes. I don’t think it crossed any of our minds to actually go into the rooms, it was just a cursory look then on to the next one. Anyway, poor Jazzy was sick on the way over so we made a plan to go to Asda and grab her a cheap outfit for the day, then go and eat lunch al fresco. After a detour or two, we made it to the top of Portsdown Hill and had a lovely afternoon just chatting about random stuff and admiring the incredible view of Portsmouth.

All in all, a lovely day, but I didn’t take my camera with me as Claire had barricaded herself in the front room just as we were leaving and it was in there. Still, I took some awesome shots with David and Katie’s camera, so it’s all good. Dave was so happy to see Smudge and Gizmo. He had a nice little cuddle with Smudge, and Gizmo eventually turned up and sniffed David’s hand – that’s as much as you could wish for with the orange one sometimes! He said they both look very wise! I take that to mean they look older now, but I don’t really see it as I’ve been watching them as they’ve been growing up.

Jane’s Mum seemed fine with it all, and Jane’s Dad got on fine with everyone when we got back, but I was utterly appalled by Claire’s attitude and apologised profusely to my brother and Katie several times – what possesses someone to be so anti-social? Well, that’s Claire in a nut-shell to be honest, you can never really predict what she’s going to be like from one moment to the next. She was as nice as pie to me later on, like nothing had even happened, and Jane hasn’t reported back with any malicious gossiping, so I assume it was all ok. I didn’t kick up a fuss or get super-stroppy when she showed some random person into our room earlier just after we moved in, or when some of Jane’s Mum and Dad’s friends were given the grand tour earlier in the year. Living with these people is so confusing sometimes.
