Hey look, a Paypal button.

As well as becoming as Uncle...

I bought a new PC today. Well, we put it on Jane’s credit card and I’ll pay her for it over the course of the next couple of months, but yeah. It’s spanking, and I can finally start realising the memory-intensive dream of developing WP7 apps and designing styles for phpBB and stuff. Seriously, our old PC just could not cope with much – I think it had 256MB of RAM. Thanks to some fuck-wittery in PC World, this new one has 8GB rather than 4GB, which is more than enough to handle the cool stuff I wanna do.

Otis Wynn Stewart

Otis Wynn Stewart. 9lbs, he was.

Another little Stewart dude running around – just what the World needs!

Can’t wait to meet him!

I am an Uncle

Again.

Mum just phoned to let me know that Jasmine’s little brother has arrived. No name or weight yet, but hey, he’s well.

So happy for David and Katie right now!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to anyone and everyone who reads this. Jane and I had a lovely time and I hope you had a lovely time with the people you care for most. That’s what this time of year is all about, really.

It's Christmas?

It is!

It’s really snuck up on me this year, it’s Christmas Eve Eve already. Doing the late shifts didn’t help, I feel like I’ve lost a day somewhere this week.

I’m beginning to get in the spirit, looking at the decorations in the house. I got my first Christmas present today – Jane got me a .net magazine subscription and the first one wasn’t supposed to arrive until the new year but it arrived this morning and she just decided to give me the first issue right away. Isn’t she lovely?

Night shifts: Part 2

Night shifts over and done with. That was… An experience. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so tired in all my life, and I’m sure I’ve missed a day somewhere this week.

In terms of actual work, on the first shift I really got into it, processed a huge delivery and created new bays and ends with stock we had loads of. Second shift I went nuts, made lists and lists of how many copies of everything we had out on the shopfloor and filled it to the brim. Third night was a little different as I had the January sale to do, but still made the whole department look amazing.

I listened to the Manic Street Preachers album a lot. And Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. On the way to and from work I listened to some of my favourite albums of all time (because this journey is roughly 45 minutes, the same rough length of time as a music album). First night was Saturday 8pm by Faithless. Such a good album. Second night was Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. Third night I went for a real old one – The Prodigy: Experience. I forgot how utterly amazing Hyperspeed was.

I was amazed at how quickly the time went. It definitely quicker than a day shift. It also gave me a new found respect for the night crew. They work damn hard, at damn inconvenient times of the day. I don’t think I’d mind doing it again next Christmas.

Merry Exterminate Day

Out with Jane in the car again, drove past our local Dalek hobbyist – check this out.

A Dalek with a Santa hat on. Amaze x 2.

Night shifts: Part 1

I’m doing a few night shifts at work this fine pre-Christmas week and to tell the truth in not looking forward to them. I don’t really know what to expect. We’re getting huge deliveries in (which is to be expected), so I have to process them and make the department look spiffing for the morning.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Exterminate!

OMG, we saw a Dalek outside someone’s house today!

Apparently Jane has driven past when the garage has been open and there are a few part-made Daleks in there as well. Amaze.

Happy birthday to me

Another year, eh? I’m blessed. Levelled up to 33. Ridiculous.

You know how I always say I don’t feel a day over 25? This time I really mean it. Whilst I’m still not in the best shape of my life, I’m not a horrible mass of blubber. Still a work in progress, I’m getting there.

As for presents, Jane and the guys here got me a new watch, a kinetic one like my old one but a bit more shiny and smart looking. Mum didn’t know what to get me so gave me some vouchers i can use to buy anything (money), David and Katie got me an awesome new book (Ready Player One), which i had read about in Edge and was quite interested in. I didn’t tell them I was interested in it, but when David asked what I’d like, I just issued him the command of buying me something interesting, maybe a book, that when you see it you think, “Iain would love that”. Jasmine gave me an adorable framed picture of her sniffing some flowers. She’s so beautiful and clever already.

The old one was beta

I wish I could blog about the new Xbox 360 dashboard right now. I got onto the beta programme last month, but now I’m kinda wishing I hadn’t. It needs to update at least twice a week, and I’ve still not got used to the new layout. Ah well, everyone will have it soon, so we’ll all be in the same boat.
